MORE ABOUT COG-ED PSYCHOLOGY
Hi, My name is Debbie and I run Cog-Ed Psychology, a specialist teaching and training company for professionals, parents and children. I have worked in the education and psychology sector for over 20 years and teach primary age to undergraduates and adults. I am a Chartered Psychologist, and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a professional member of the Division of Researchers and Teachers in Psychology (DARTP. I am also an associate lecturer in education, psychology and child psychology, a doctoral researcher and a dyslexia specialist.
I am a professional member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) and the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific learning difficulty (PATOSS and also hold an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) which enables me to carry out full diagnostic assessments. I have gained post graduate qualifications in literacy, psychological methods and low intensity psychological (CBT) interventions and have worked within the National Health Service, (CAMHS), Mental Health Voluntary Organisations, Adult Education, all sectors of education: Primary, Secondary and Higher Education as well as local council within Community Learning.
Cog-Ed stands for Cognitive Education. Cognitive, relating to cognition, means the process of knowing and acquiring knowledge through thinking, reasoning, perception and experiences. Cognition is rooted in the latin word ‘cognoscere’ which means 'to get to know’. I have spent most of career focusing on how people learn and develop and how best to support this. I am passionate about social, emotional development and mental health, SEN, dyslexia, study skills, and child and developmental psychology. I understand that people, adults and children can often feel isolated and unsure where to go for help if experiencing emotional difficulty or unmet educational needs, and educators are often limited by budgets and time.
Cog-Ed Psychology offers support, courses, workshops and training in all aspects of education, psychology and mental health, SEN/SEMH, emotional wellbeing and learning needs for children, teenagers, adults, parents and professionals and as well as full diagnostic assessments. As an experienced educator Cog-Ed draws on evidence based interventions which are structured and multisensory and a range of psychological interventions depending on the needs and requirements of the adult, parent, child and setting. There are also a number of online interactive programmes to promote wellbeing and literacy which children and young people find particularly fun, and an engaging way to enhance their wellbeing and skills.
